Speaker

"Speakers who talk about what life has taught them never fail to keep the attention of their listeners." - Dale Carnegie

"You can speak well if your tongue can deliver the message of your heart." - John Ford

You have been chosen to be a speaker at Souly Business because you have the heart and skill qualifications to serve the men in the audience.

It's been said, "the success of your presentation will be judged not by the knowledge you send but by what the listener receives.” We are praying the Holy Spirit empowers you to speak revelation (not just information) so the men on your weekend will be transformed.

Please use the points outlined in this document as the foundational points to your talk.

The two tabs below provide information about the Speaker. "WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING" explores the skills needed for the role, and "HOW TO SERVE" will help prepare your heart.

What you will be doing

What you will be doing

As a speaker at Souly, you will be addressing the men around your topic. Below are some practical guidelines as you prepare your Souly Business talk.

  • Timing

    • Please limit your talk to 35 minutes so as not to infringe on the important time of group discussion. Be willing to share stories from your own faith journey to support the points of your talk. Demonstrate humility, openness, and vulnerability as that will naturally flow through to table discussion.
  • Vision of Souly Business

    • As a reminder, any talk should help move men closer to our vision of creating environments where men are inspired by the Holy Spirit to more purposefully live out their Christian faith and values in their professional and personal lives. Our mission is to connect men with their Heavenly Father … and one another.
  • Vulnerability

    • Please share deeply and intimately from your own story. Your vulnerability will open up table discussions. It also “brings down” the speaker from superhuman level to a real person. Try to avoid "teaching" and just share how the Lord has moved in your own life related to your topic.
  • Scripture

    • Ask the Lord to provide you with a few key scriptures as underpinning to your talk.
    • While we want you to make your personal story a part of your talk, please ground your main points on the authority of Scripture.
    • Do not use too many Scriptures in machine-gun style.
    • We encourage you to have one key scripture and perhaps a couple more for flavor so we don’t lose the impact of the main Scriptural references.
    • Your point of view, or key bottom line, must be something that is backed up by Scripture. If you have a premise you must have a Biblical proof.
  • Content

    • Include relevant business content. Use examples that business people can relate to. Business and personal stories illustrating your key bottom line, or point of view are very helpful.
    • We have included a few "essential points" to include in your talk; please mold your stories to these key points sharing how your life has been impacted by the message/point.
    • Give examples of your own struggles, failures, and how God has “shown up” during your time in the valley. Try not to lecture and sound like you have it all “figured out”. We do not want Brothers to ever feel as if they can never “measure up”.
    • As a speaker at Souly Business, you are relating your own faith journey as a marketplace leader to help others and give them encouragement for their journey. Please pray for God’s direction and wisdom.
    • Be positive, prepared, personal, prayed up, and share in the power of the Holy Spirit and leave the results to God!
  • God’s Glory

    • End the message with hope that glorifies God and encourages the men. Focus on the exchanged life and all that our good and great God wants to do through us.
  • Slides / Notes

    • We encourage you not to use too many slides as we want the audience to focus on the speaker and his story- not the presentation.
    • We encourage you to use the points outlined in the "Talk Overview" document as slides in your presentation.
    • Use slides or a message outline to help organize your thoughts and listeners’ comprehension.
    • Please prepare notes with Keynote or PowerPoint slides, or a simple 1-page double sided outline to hand out to men.
  • Importance of a One-Point Message

    • For helpful strategies on preparing and delivering an effective and memorable presentation you may want to read Communicating For A Change by Andy Stanley, or Tim Keller’s book about communicating Preaching (it’s not just for pastors, but rather anyone sharing a Christian message).
    • The key bottom line idea of your talk is to give the men something they can remember and apply - one thing you really want them to know and one thing you really want them to do. If it's memorable they can apply it to their lives. 70% of presentations do not have a point. Please try to make sure yours does.
  • End with a question, a prayer, or an action

    • This will guide the follow-up table discussions, aide processing and understanding of how your presentation applies to them and can lead to life transformation.
