Retreat Photographer

"You can look at a picture for a week and never think of it again. You can also look at the picture for a second and think of it all your life." - Joan Miro

"A picture is worth a thousand words.” – Arthur Brisbane

The role of the Retreat Photographer is to capture the depth of feeling over the weekend and creating memorable experiences that connects the men at the tables and the men to the overall retreat.

In general, he takes pictures during the weekend, as well as team table pictures.  Then produces a 10-12 minute retreat video (with music) to be shown at the end of the weekend.

The two tabs below provide information about the Retreat Photographer. "WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING" explores the skills needed for the role, and "HOW TO SERVE" will help prepare your heart for the role.

What you will be doing

What you will be doing

  • Following are details about what the photographer will be doing during the weekend.

    • Show up early and set up in a quiet room approved by the camp to use to in order to set-up a PC and cable.
    • Take pics of really everyone - worship team, speakers, hosts, casual shots, men at tables and the retreat facilities and the men in quiet times.
    • Take pics of groups on Sat from 6-7 before dinner (announce this with afternoon note on tables) or have TS remind tables.
    • Typically take between 300-1000 pics.
    • Take close-ups and room wide pictures and be  sure you have plenty of batteries and even a tripod may be needed.
    • Prepare a 10-12 minute video of slides and music on Sunday morning to be shown Sunday at 2:00pm.
    • Be thinking of music to put on the video early in the week.

How to Serve

How to Serve

  • Following are suggestions on "how" to serve in the role of retreat photographer.

    • Be careful to stay out of personal conversations - try to be unseen in the manner in which you take pics.
    • Be careful not to interrupt poignant moments - don’t loom for photographs when a guy is pouring out his heart at his table.
    • Prepare your own heart to serve in love the week before. Pray for the men as you take pictures of them.
    • Ask the Lord to show you certain shots.
    • Try to capture the heart and emotion of the moments.
